“Behold! thy Lord said to the angels: “I am about to create man, from sounding clay from mud molded into shape”.[i]
After Allah (swt) created the heavens and the earth, he created Adam (as) on the last day, which was a Friday. As discussed earlier this was not the day right after the creation of the jinn on a Thursday, but rather Adam (as) was created after a much longer period. Adam was the last kind of the creation, i.e. humans. He is the first of the prophets and the first human being.
Allah (swt) created him from clay after it was mixed with water from Paradise. He was created from a handful of dust taken from different lands. This is the reason why we have people with white, red, black and yellow skins, and with different personalities. He remained a figure of clay for forty years before Allah (swt) breathed the spirit into Adam (as).

The details of Prophet Adam (as)’s life have been discussed in various books, websites and videos which cover the events that took place in his lifetime, his teachings and the lessons that we can learn from it. Therefore, I will not be reinventing the wheel, but I suggest learning about his life from any of the following resources:
Allamah’s Prophets of Allah Unit
Sister Sadhia’s Ramadhan Prophet’s Project
Migo and Ali: Love for the Prophets by Zanib Mian
The Topics that should be covered by the above research are:
- Creation and teaching of Adam (as)
- Prostration of the Angels
- Disobedience of Iblis
- Creation of Hawa (as)
- Fall to Earth
- Arrival in Arafat
- Habil and Qabil
- Construction of Kabah
- Adam (as)’s death
Adam (as) lived for about 1,000 years and after his death, his son Sheeth (means Gift of Allah) took over the responsibilities of prophethood. Allah sent down 104 psalms of which 50 were set down to Sheeth (as)[ii]. Adam (as)’s children had already spread all over the earth and they organized themselves into various groups. We will soon read about all of these early civilizations.
When the time of his death came, Sheeth (as)’s son Anoush succeeded him followed by Qinan and then Mahlabeel. The Persians claim that Mahlabeel was the first one to cut down trees to build cities and large forts and that he built the cities of Babylonia. He reigned for a period of forty years. When he died, his duties were taken by his son Yard who was succeeded by his son Khonoukh or Enoch who is actually Idris (as)[iii].
