Prophet Mohammad (saw) said: “The keys of the Ghayb (Unseen) are five and no one but Allah the Almighty knows them:
- No one knows what will happen tomorrow but Allah
- No one knows by how much the wombs fall short (of their time) but Allah
- No one know when it will rain but Allah
- No human soul knows in what land it will die
- No one knows when the Hour will be but Allah.”[i]
We have already learned about the complicated process of rainfall. Scientists work very hard to understand exactly how rain is formed, how clouds work and how winds blow. Meteorologists have made efforts to develop artificial means of rain through cloud seeding and to forecast when rain will come. However, the mysteries of precipitation are still difficult for humankind to comprehend completely.
Cloud seeding is not always successful, if it was, we would not have droughts and famines. In most weather forecasts, rainfall predictions are made only a few hours before rainfall actually takes place and more often than not, they are not reliable even after the use of advanced technology.

| Cloud seeding is a method used to stimulate precipitation by dispersing substances such as dry ice or silver iodide into clouds. The process is an artificial way of helping to boost rainfall. This is usually done by sending a small aircraft near the cloud’s location and releasing the materials. Once inside the cloud, the substances assist in making ice crystals, which is what rain comes from. Weather patterns are analyzed early in the morning. If the right clouds are accumulating in a certain area, the aircraft is deployed there.Once the aircraft reaches the location, the pilot searches for clouds with an updraft to release cloud-seeding materials. Firing time usually takes around three minutes and depends on how large the cloud is. Reaction to the cloud-seeding materials is about 10-15 minutes. The aircraft operate out of Al Ain International Airport as frequent cloud formations happen in the surrounding areas. |

The knowledge with Allah (swt) is not just about when it will rain in a particular place – it goes much beyond that. He knows when and where a particular cloud will be formed, where the winds will carry it, how many drops of water will fall from it, which spots on the ground will be wet and which will remain dry. He has the knowledge of each and every drop of rain that has ever fallen on the earth since the beginning of time; and He knows how much rain will fall – when, where and how until the Day of Judgement. His knowledge is all encompassing and we cannot even begin to imagine its depth.
Subhan Allah!!!
Things To Do:
- Write a short note about Cloud Seeding in your Science Journal.
- List the 5 things that only Allah (swt) has knowledge about.
